Scoring Big Savings via PromotionCode.org

PromotionCode.org

When it comes to sports, there are only two that are near and dear to my heart.  The first is hockey.  The other is shopping.  What?  You knew shopping was a sport, right?  Well, my beloved Kings were booted in round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Again.  I’ll still be watching, but I’m not emotionally invested.  More energy to focus on shopping!

I prefer to do my shopping online when possible these days.  Dragging two two year olds and a five year old around the brick and mortar is often nothing less than torture.  I’m happy to spare the drama and have it delivered to my door.  That said, I want a good deal.  Online shopping can be just as time consuming as shopping in the store.  Researching to be sure of the item you want, tracking down the best deal, looking for coupon codes for extra savings – it adds up.  I’m constantly on the lookout for sites that can save me time and energy and I’ve found one in PromotionCode.org.

At PromotionCode.org you’ll find current promo codes for online retailers from A-Z.  They are serious about making sure that the promo codes listed on the site are current.   Users can submit new codes as well as report the success or failure of posted codes.  This is a big plus in my book – ever found a great promo code that you’re excited to use, made it all the way to checkout just to find that it’s no longer valid?  So frustrating!

There is a whole page dedicated to my favorite type of promo code: Free Shipping Codes

Want to keep up with the latest promotions from your favorite retailers, but don’t have the time to keep tabs yourself?  You can sign up for daily or weekly e-mail updates of the new promo codes from the stores of your choosing.

Whether you’re an occasional online shopper or an all out pajama shopping junkie like me, I think you’ll find PromotionCode.org to be well worth a visit.

Aloha Old London Sweepstakes

Aloha Old London Sweepstakes

Summer is coming.  Shorts, tank tops and swimsuits.  Eek!  One of my major obstacles when it comes to staying in shape is snacking.  A few chips here, a cookie there.  It doesn’t seem like much at the time, but it sure adds up.  A little here and a little there and the waistline of my jeans is feeling a little snug.  I’m looking for healthy substitutions: yogurt or berries work well for sweet cravings, but savory and crunchy snack cravings can be my downfall.  Carrots and celery don’t always cut it, you know?

I was recently reintroduced to the snack offerings from Old London and I think I’ve found what I’d been looking for.  Their Bagel Crisps and Melba Snacks deliver a satisfying crunch and taste delcious right out of the box.  At 60-70 calories per serving, these can be savored without regret. We received three varieties to try: the original Old London Melba Toast, the Spicy Cheddar Bagel Crisps and the Roasted Garlic Melba Snacks.  I was surprised when all three of my kids kept coming back for more.  In the words of my two year old son “They tasty and good!”

Old London Snacks

Beyond simple snacking, Old London offers some recipe ideas on their website.  I never would have thought of making Lasagna or Tiramisu with Melba Toast!

Be sure to enter the Aloha Old London Sweepstakes for your chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two to Hawaii.  The four-day, three-night, all-expenses paid getaway will include surfing lessons, dinner for two at Tropics Bar & Grill, spa services at the Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage at Mandara Spa, private cooking lessons at the Chef Mavro restaurant and Two Alii Luau packages at the Polynesian Cultural Center with admission to “PCC, Alii Luau and Ha: Breath of Life” evening show,  air travel and accommodations at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa.  Doesn’t that sound amazing?  Someone has to win – might as well be me or you, right?

Full of Flavor, Free of Salt – Cooking with Mrs. Dash

Baby Spinach and Bowties

Over the past few months, we’ve been doing lots of experimenting with Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends.   We’re finding that it isn’t difficult to make meals with plenty of flavor, minus the sodium supplied by the salt we’d been used to adding.  With 14 Mrs. Dash blends to choose from, the possibilities are endless.

The flavors include:

  • Original Blend
  • Garlic and Herb
  • Lemon Pepper
  • Fiesta Lime
  • Tomato Basil Garlic
  • Chicken Grilling Blend
  • Hamburger Grilling Blend
  • Steak Grilling Blend
  • Southwest Chipotle
  • Italian Medley
  • Caribbean Citrus
  • Table Blend
  • Onion & Herb
  • Extra Spicy

So far I’d say our favorites have been the Lemon Pepper (good on veggies and chicken) and the Southwest Chipotle (love this to add a kick to a quesadilla).  With warmer weather on the horizon, I’m looking forward to getting the grill fired up to test out the grilling blends.  There are also plenty of recipes on the Mrs. Dash website you can use for inspiration on how to use the blends.  Last week we tried the Baby Spinach and Bowties, it was a refreshing change of pace from the same old pasta and marinara sauce we usually eat.  Two out of my three kids loved it, which is a success in my book.

Baby Spinach and Bowties

Ingredients
12 ounces bow tie pasta
2 Tbsp. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups chopped tomato
2 sun-dried tomatoes, minced
6 cups baby spinach (one 6 oz. bag)
2 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
6 tablespoons sliced Kalamata or black olives (about 6 olives)
1 1/2 teaspoons Mrs. Dash® Lemon Pepper Seasoning Blend
2 Tbsp. shredded parmesan cheese
Directions
1. Cook pasta according to the package directions. Before draining, remove approximately 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water and reserve. Drain the pasta and return to the pot and toss with 1 tablespoon of the oil. Cover to keep warm.
2. In a large non-stick skillet, sprayed with cooking spray, heat the remaining oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until the garlic softens, being careful not to burn, about 3–5 minutes. Add the fresh and sun-dried tomatoes and cook for another 4–5 minutes until the tomatoes start to soften. Add the spinach and cook, tossing until the leaves are wilted. Stir in lemon juice, olives, and Mrs. Dash seasoning.
3. Reduce heat to low and cook for another 2-3 minutes to combine flavors.
4. Add the tomato mixture to the pasta and toss to coat, adding some of the reserved pasta water, if necessary.
5. Sprinkle with the parmesan cheese and serve.

Cauliflower Popcorn

I was really intrigued by this Cauliflower Popcorn.  I’ve never been a big fan of cauliflower, but the reviews on the recipe convinced me to test it out.  Sadly, mine came out looking nothing like the photo, most pieces were overcooked to the point of charring.  But the pieces that were salvageable were quite tasty so I think I’ll give it another go one of these days.

Do you use Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends?  Which one is your favorite?

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Masquerade Now on DVD

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie's Masquerade

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse has been must-see TV in our house for several years now.  Our morning routine usually includes an episode after breakfast with my kids watching intently, talking to the characters and dancing along.  In the latest DVD release from the series, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Masquerade, preschoolers can enjoy four favorite episodes from the Disney Channel series as well as one never before seen episode.

A specially packaged version of the DVD includes the Disney Exclusive Mickey Mote, a child-friendly handheld remote control with the iconic Mickey ears shape.

About the Mickey Mote:

Disney’s Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode™ feature – an interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD. All parents have to do is program the remote control – there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD- and select the Discovery Mode feature on the menu screen. Within minutes, kids will be easily responding to questions, throughout the story, about scenes they just watched by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device — a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses. Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.

The Mickey Mote has been a big hit with my kids, allowing them to get more interactive with their favorite characters.  With two levels of play, it’s fun for both my almost five year old and my two year old twins.  The only problem we’ve encountered is a simple mathematical equation:

1 Mickey Mote + 3 Kids who don’t always like to share = Potential Disaster

We’ll likely pick up an extra Mickey Mote or two. Mickey Mote or no Mickey Mote, we give this DVD a thumbs up and it has been in heavy rotation for the past couple of weeks.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Masquerade is available now, in stores and online. Amazon.com is currently offering Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Masquerade with Mickey Mote for $21.99 and the standalone Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie’s Masquerade DVD for $13.99.

Disclosure: We received a copy of this DVD for review purposes.  All opinions are our own.

Mrs. Dash Seasonings – Add Flavor, Not Sodium

Mrs. Dash Seasoning BlendsThere is nothing like having kids to make you pay more attention to the food you eat.  Not only do I need to make sure three little bellies are full of (mostly) healthy food, but I need to make sure I’m setting a good example for them by eating healthier myself.  I may sneak in a treat during naptime or when after they have gone to bed at night, but otherwise, they are always watching.  Once I started looking at labels, I didn’t like what I was seeing.  One of the things that shocked me was how much sodium is found in the prepared foods we’ve been eating for years.  Now I’m trying to cut down on the processed foods, increase our fruit and vegetable intake and make more of our meals fresh.

Recently I was fortunate to receive a variety of Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends through a Mom Central blog tour that will run throughout the year.  I’ve been familiar with Mrs. Dash for years, the original bottle with the yellow cap and label.  I had no idea there were so many seasonings in their line today – 14 in all.

The Mrs. Dash website offers all kinds of recipes that I’m looking forward to trying.  Don’t these Appetizer Meat Balls look like they’d be perfect for  a Super Bowl celebration?  They are flavored with Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend.  I have a feeling my husband would love them.

Mrs. Dash Appetizer Meat Balls

There are plenty of foods that I couldn’t have imagined without salt – most vegetables, potatoes and garlic bread to name a few.  We’ve been sprinkling the various blends on top of our veggies at dinner and on top of baked potatoes and you know what?  We’re not missing the salt! I’m excited by all the possibilities and looking forward to experimenting with the different varieties to add flavor without adding a bunch of unnecessary sodium to our meals.

Have you tried Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends?  If you have a favorite recipe, I’d love to hear it!
