The Great Stuffing Debate (and a $150 Visa GC Giveaway!)

The Great Stuffing Debate Logo
Election Day is behind us and thank goodness for that. The last thing anyone needs at the Thankgiving table is a political debate. Another debate is brewing however, and this time it’s all about the stuffing. No Thanksgiving meal is complete without the stuffing, that much we can agree on, but what exactly should be in that stuffing? Cornbread? Veggies? Oysters? Pecans? Cranberries? Sausage? What one person loves, another shuns, and there you have it – The Great Stuffing Debate.

Do you have a tried and true stuffing recipe that you use every year or do you like to mix things up and try something completely different? Call me traditional, call me boring, but I like to keep things simple with a basic stuffing. It may not be the most gourmet, but it seems to please more than it offends.

Here’s my go-to recipe, which takes just five ingredients and is quick to prepare, a must on a day when there is so much cooking to be done.

Moist and Savory Stuffing

Moist and Savory Stuffing Ingredients

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups Swanson® Chicken Broth
Generous Dash Ground Black Pepper
2 Stalks Celery, Coarsely Chopped (about 1 cup)
1 Large Onion, Coarsely Chopped (about 1 cup)
1 14 oz package Pepperidge Farm® Herb Seasoned Stuffing

Directions:
1. Heat the broth, black pepper, celery and onion
in a 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat to a
boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5
minutes or until the vegetables are tender. Remove
the saucepan from the heat. Add the stuffing
and mix lightly.

2. Spoon the stuffing mixture into a greased 3-quart
shallow baking dish or casserole. Cover the baking dish.

3. Bake at 350°F. for 30 minutes or until the
stuffing mixture is hot.

Voila, classic stuffing!  So what do you think?  Are you on my side?

I like their Garden Vegetable Stuffing, though my mom always made a basic sage, bread, garlic, celery and onion stuffing. Don’t like the sweet varieties or the ones made with cornbread.
